IT ONLY TAKES ONE CAMPAIGN

It Only Takes One is a multi-layered campaign aiming to raise awareness and provide practical support to:

  • Promote safety advice for women (although applicable to everyone) who are going on a night out.
  • Raise awareness of the impact that harassment and inappropriate behaviour have, and encourage conversation
    amongst groups.
  • Provide bystanders with the knowledge to recognise unacceptable behaviour, and the confidence to challenge it or offer support to the person targeted.

The campaign will extend over several years and encompass many strands of work, all with the aim of making
Northamptonshire a safer place for everyone, with a focus on women and girls.

We aim to involve the whole community. This is reflected in our strapline – ‘It only takes one community to say enough is
enough’ – and through our aims: to encourage people to recognise and call out harassment, to start a conversation with
men, and to challenge inappropriate attitudes and behaviour towards women.

The campaign also includes an extensive programme of environmental improvements, including CCTV and help points on
the Racecourse, Becket’s Park, All Saints Plaza, and Abington Street.

There is improved lighting, CCTV, and security in other parts of Northampton and an improved ‘Safer Route’ across
Becket’s Park. Car parks at the Racecourse, Midsummer Meadow and the University of Northampton have Park Mark
security. A SNO van (Safer Nights Out van) in Northampton provides a haven from which volunteers can support anyone
who needs help in the town centre on Friday and Saturday night.

IT ONLY TAKES ONE COMMUNITY TO SAY “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”.
